It worked wonders when my little one, o'Nassis kept getting Jack, the bigger one, to jump up on furniture with her and do other naughty things he knew better not to do. We got her recently, he's been in our family for more than a year. It's funny how his behavior changed when she arrived. Together they decided to be terrors. If you can set aside some time everyday for some training, love and attention, I believe that your dog will be easy to train and will gain more trust in you than if you use a training method that shocks him.
